Hitchin’ Bitches

Hitchin’ Bitches is a network for female identified riggers and rope tops that I started in late 2011 together with a couple of friends in London. We did this because we felt like we wanted to create a safe space for women who are into to rope; a space to learn and to share in.

Despite ropes getting more and popular, we saw mostly men tying women and not so much of the female rope tops. Most of those who teach, demo and perform are men. Most pictures we see of rope are of women tied up. We did not feel this reflected the reality in which we live in, where women and non-binary gender id’d folks tie, have skills and knowledge to share.

Many whom I spoke to said that despite being interested, they often found themselves in rope rather than tying- the default of men tying had become so strong. In setting up Hitchin’ Bitches and running it together with friends, we hope to change this, and we have, after not even one year, seen an increase in female rope tops.

If you are interested in joining us, starting a chapter, teaching, or exploring ropes with us, please get in contact. We welcome anyone, regardless of their previous experience.  If you are curious about how you can help making sure that the rope community is actively working towards an inclusive rope environment, this reading might be a good start.
